Charlotte woman wins $4 million top prize

Swati Amin of Charlotte tried her luck on a $30 scratch-off and won a $4 million top prize.

Amin bought her lucky Carolina Black Premier ticket from BJ’s Food Mart on Michigan Avenue in Asheville. Amin sometimes works at the store and said she bought her ticket after getting off work.

When Amin arrived Friday to collect her prize, she had a decision to make. She could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $200,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $2.4 million. She chose the lump sum of $2.4 million and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $1,722,008.

The Carolina Black Premier game debuted in July with three $4 million top prizes and six $100,000 prizes. Two $4 million prizes and six $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

$5 Cash Plus scratch offs end November 21st. 3 out of 4 $200,000 top prizes have not been claimed. People have been buying this ticket in hopes it was possible to win a top prize. If a scratch off ends before all top prizes are given out that`s malarkey. They never had a chance to win that top prize. NCEL made millions and peoples hopes were dashed. Hi there, Timothy! If a game is ended with a top prize remaining, half of that unclaimed prize money goes back into games in the form of prizes, and the other half benefits education. Our hope is always that a game is so popular that it sells out and all the prizes are awarded.

Hi, John! We may see more winners over time from areas with larger populations, simply because there are more folks taking a chance to win there. That doesn't mean it's easier to win in those areas: areas with larger populations may see more winning and non-winning tickets in proportion with the odds of a game. No matter where you play, your odds of winning are the same - it just takes a lot of luck!

C-store workers have an advantage over the average scratch customer when it comes to getting a winning ticket. They know that the big winner of the ticket pack is usually toward the middle numbers of the ticket pack. This goes for all the different scratch offs. Also a white line between tickets is a good indication of a winning ticket also. Hardly ever do the low numbers of a new pack of tickets win anything substantial. NC Lottery
During the secure printing process, winning tickets are distributed at random throughout the entire printing run of each game. Then they're divided up into packs and the inventory is stored securely before being distributed to retailers by the lottery's sales staff. Where a winning ticket might show up is a complete mystery until a lucky player scratches one off and comes in to claim! Packs are sent out randomly to retailers as they are ordered. Players and retailers never know when and where a big winning ticket will pop up!

I dont understand why the pin on the map shows Charlotte when the ticket was sold in Asheville. I think these posts need to headline where the ticket was sold, not where the person who won it is from. Otherwise, it makes it seem that the ticket was won in Charlotte, which it was not.NC Lottery
