Reality still has yet to set in for Sharon Howard of Charlotte after a $5 scratch-off won her a $150,000 top prize.
“I still feel like I’m in a dream,” she said.
Howard purchased her lucky Xtreme Cashword ticket from Stop & Go on South Tryon Street in Charlotte.
“I always get the crossword tickets,” Howard said. “I just love crosswords. They are fun.”
She collected her prize at lottery headquarters Wednesday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $107,626.
“I never could’ve imagined this,” Howard said. “I’ve never won anything like this before.”
She plans to use her winnings to pay off her mortgage.
The Xtreme Cashword game debuted in October 2024 with nine $150,000 top prizes. Two $150,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
