Union County woman enjoys $494,109 jackpot win

Irene Gates of Indian Trail tried her luck on the Jurassic Park™ Fast Play game on Monday and won a $494,109 jackpot.

Gates bought her lucky $5 ticket from the Food Lion on U.S. 74 West in Indian Trail. At the time of her purchase, the jackpot stood at $988,218. Since Gates bought a $5 ticket, she received 50% of the progressive jackpot.

She arrived at lottery headquarters on Tuesday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $354,525.

Fast Play features an instantly growing jackpot that increases with every ticket sold until it is won. As of Wednesday morning, the jackpot stands at $517,000 and counting.
