The holiday season has already arrived for Kenneth Roundtree Jr. of Washington after a $5 scratch-off produced the first $150,000 top prize in a new game.
“We are starting Christmas early this year,” he said. “I love it.”
Roundtree Jr. bought his lucky Holiday Cashword ticket on Tuesday from Cratches Mini Mart on U.S. 264 West in Washington.
“I just had a gut feeling about that one,” Roundtree Jr. recalled.
He arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $107,626.
Roundtree Jr. plans to use his winnings to help out his mom.
The Holiday Cashword game debuted this week with three $150,000 top prizes. Two $150,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
