Charlotte woman wins $500,000 in Powerball Double Play drawing

Laura Pugerude of Charlotte took a chance on a $3 Powerball ticket in Saturday’s drawing and won a $500,000 prize.

Pugerude bought her lucky Double Play ticket at Charlotte’s Landing on Express Drive in Charlotte. She matched the numbers on all five white balls in the Powerball Double Play drawing to win $500,000. The odds of that win were 1 in 11.6 million.

Double Play is a $1 add-on feature that allows players to play their Powerball numbers again in a separate drawing for a chance to win up to $10 million.

Pugerude arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to claim her winnings and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $358,751.

Saturday’s Powerball jackpot stands at a $1.5 billion annuity or $686.5 million in cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.

Powerball is one of six draw games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.

When new features are added to games, please be sure that employees at retail locations are educated on how they work. I purchased a PB ticket online for the previous drawing, with Power Play AND Double Play for a total of $4. I was in a gas station & decided to get a ticket for tonight's drawing and was told the ticket would cost $6. I said that is not correct, it should be $4. The person just shrugged & said it would be $6 if I wanted both options. I said just give me the ticket w/Power Play for $3.NC Lottery

Another Powerball story of a Doubleplay or Power Play winner to push the extra dollar cost so folks will pay $3 to $4 for a $2 Powerball ticket. Of course Megamillions was gonna up their individual ticket price to $5 when Powerball is making more money. Mega Millions only draws twice a week as opposed to Powerball that draws 3 times a week. It's a greed race on the public's money at this point. Lucky for Life will be catching up with them soon.
