Robert Hoban of Stanley went to sleep Sunday night dreaming of winning a $110,000 Cash 5 jackpot and he awoke the next morning to discover that’s exactly what happened.
“I actually dreamt the night before that I would win,” Hoban recalled. “It’s strange because I even dreamt the exact amount that I won.”
Hoban said he told his family about the big win but they didn’t believe him.
“They thought I was kidding with them,” he laughed, “because I like to do that a lot.”
He bought his lucky $1 Quick Pick ticket using Online Play. His ticket matched all five numbers in Sunday’s drawing to win the jackpot. The odds of matching numbers on all five balls are 1 in 962,598.
“It was very crazy, but it’s true,” Hoban said.
He claimed his winnings on Friday and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $78,925.
Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Friday’s jackpot is $144,000.
