Jason Miller of Monroe enjoyed an early birthday gift with a $150,000 digital instant win on Thursday.
“I won it two days before my birthday,” he said.
Miller played a $30 ticket and won the jackpot in The Claw game. The odds of that win are 1 in 2 million.
“It was very surreal,” he recalled. “That’s one of my favorite games.”
Miller said it took him a minute to process his big win.
“I just paused and stared at it,” Miller said. “Then I hopped out of my truck and showed my coworker. He told me, ‘Good things happen to good people.’”
He claimed his prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $107,633.
Miller plans to use his winnings to pay some bills and put the majority in savings.
Digital instant games are played exclusively online on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Thirty-eight different games are available to play online now.
