Virginia Borders of Durham entered a second-chance drawing and won the $250,000 grand prize on Wednesday.
Borders found out that she won the top prize in the 2024 Holiday Second Chance drawing when she got an email notification from the lottery. There were more than 39 million entries in the drawing.
She arrived on Friday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $179,375.
Players got a second chance with their holiday scratch-off tickets by scanning them into their lottery accounts where they were automatically entered into the drawing. In addition to the $250,000 top prize, the drawing had 10 $10,000 winners and 100 winners of $500.
