Wake County couple enjoys $1 million scratch-off win

Jon and Karen Bell of Wake Forest took a chance on a $10 scratch-off and won a $1 million top prize.

They bought the lucky 50X The Cash ticket from OHM Quick Shop on Capital Boulevard in Wake Forest.

When the Bells arrived at lottery headquarters Monday, they had a decision to make. They could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. They chose to split the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required tax withholdings, they each took home $215,251.

The 50X The Cash game debuted in February with six $1 million top prizes. Four $1 million prizes remain to be claimed.

it's my understanding they bought an entire pack and surprise there was a million dollar winner in that pack, I can't help but wonder sometimes??

Do you have to keep repeating the same boring thing each time. They had a decision to make, after REQUIRED tax withholdings, etc... Nobody needs to know what their decision was and it certainly isn't necessary to remind everyone that tax withholdings are "REQUIRED". Anyone with even half a brain already knows this.

I think the smartest way to play scratch off is to buy those tickets from Wake county. You will have better odds of winning top prize in scratch off games than any other county.NC Lottery
Hi, Philip! No matter where you play, your odds of winning are the same - it just takes a lot of luck. We may see more winners over time in areas with larger populations, simply because there are more folks taking a chance to win there. That doesn't mean it's easier to win in those areas. With more people playing and buying tickets, that simply means there's a larger number of both winning and non-winning tickets in that area in proportion with the odds.
