A fuel stop on Wednesday helped Brian Kuhn of Victor, Montana win a $100,000 scratch-off prize.
“I’ve never won anything like this before,” Kuhn said. “It’s still sinking in.”
He bought his lucky $30 Black Titanium ticket from Wake Cross Roads Express on Forestville Road in Raleigh.
“I was just stopping in for gas this morning so I figured I would give it a try,” Kuhn recalled. “I’ve been working on a contract down here.”
Kuhn said he initially misread the amount on his winning ticket.
“I thought I won $10,000 at first,” he laughed.
He arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,758.
Kuhn plans to use his winnings to help out his family.
The Black Titanium game debuted in June of 2023 with six $4 million top prizes and 16 $100,000 prizes. Two $4 million prizes and three $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
