Jeffrey Walker of Lumberton wanted to buy a new home for a long time and now he can after winning a $1 million scratch-off prize.
“That’s a real good feeling,” Walker said. “This is a true blessing.”
He bought his lucky $30 Millionaire Maker ticket from Sun-Do on East Elizabethtown Road in Lumberton. He took the ticket home to scratch it and then immediately wanted to share his good news when he saw how much he won.
“I had to wake my daughter up to tell her,” Walker laughed.
With the dream of a new home, Walker said the timing of his win works out great.
“This will really come in handy,” he said. “It’s coming at the perfect time.”
When Walker arrived at lottery headquarters Friday, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive his prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required tax withholdings, took home $430,508.
