Todd Lesher of Franklinville sat at home Sunday watching TV and playing digital instants when all of a sudden he hit a $328,105 jackpot.
“I was surprised I didn’t have a heart attack,” he laughed.
Lesher, a grandfather of four, played a $2 spin and won the top level ‘Epic jackpot’ in the Bison Bonanza game. The digital instant game features a progressive jackpot that can be won at any time. The odds of that win are 1 in 15.5 million.
“I just kept looking at it to make sure it was still there,” Lesher recalled. “I thought there was no way.”
He claimed his prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $235,416.
“I’m a happy camper because I can live comfortably now,” Lesher said. “This couldn’t have come at a better time.”
He plans to use his winnings to pay off his house, pay some bills, and do some landscaping around his home.
In the Bison Bonanza digital instant game, a player can play from 50 cents to $30. After Lesher won the jackpot, it restarted at $50,000 and has grown to over $85,000 as of Thursday morning.
Digital instant games are played exclusively online on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Forty-three different games are available to play online now.
Randolph County has received over $29 million from money raised by the lottery to build a new middle school. For details on other ways the lottery helps benefit education programs in Randolph County, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
