Robert Lowman of Wilson plans to help those less fortunate after winning a $250,000 scratch-off prize.
“I want to help the homeless people in my community,” he said.
Lowman bought his lucky $5 20X The Cash ticket on Sunday from J & H Mart on Tarboro Street in Wilson.
“I never imagined in a million years I’d win something like this,” he said. “It’s a miracle.”
Lowman said he didn’t know how to react when he won.
“I really didn’t know what to do or what to think,” he recalled.
He collected his prize at lottery headquarters Monday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $179,376.
In addition to helping the homeless, he plans to do some work on his apartment.
The 20X The Cash game debuted in February 2024 with 10 $250,000 top prizes. Since Lowman won the last top prize, the lottery will begin the process of ending the game.
