At Bertie High School, CTE doesn’t just stand for Career and Technical Education. According to CTE Director Wanda Cofield, it also means “Catch The Excitement!” And trust us, there’s plenty to be excited about.
Thanks to lottery funds, Bertie County Schools just broke ground on a new, state-of-the-art CTE wing at Bertie High School in Windsor.
“This multi-million-dollar project will be completed without any financial burden to the taxpayers of Bertie County,” shared Bertie County Schools Superintendent Dr. Otis Smallwood. “So I would encourage you all to keep buying those tickets.”
That’s right—the $15 million price tag for construction and classroom equipment is covered with a grant from the state’s Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund.
District and school leadership gathered for the groundbreaking, many of whom graduated from Bertie High. The original high school is located across the street, where CTE courses are still held.
“We have broken the barrier of traveling across the street, losing class time and teach time because we have to get on the bus, take the bus over, bring them back,” said CTE Director Wanda Cofield.
The addition will expand Bertie’s existing CTE program with more opportunities to gain practical, hands-on experience in high-demand fields such as cosmetology, agriculture and HVAC service.
When you play the lottery, you play a part in making these dreams come true.
Bertie is one of 16 counties who received more than $416 million in school construction grants last year. That’s now 58 counties across North Carolina who can have a new or upgraded school building because of players like you.
