Three North Carolinians took part in race night on Friday at the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Mamie Peoples, a resident of Rocky Mount, served as the Grand Marshal for the race. She had the honor of saying the four most famous words in racing: “Drivers, start your engines.”
Alfredo Torres, a Greensboro resident and this year’s Honorary Starter, got to wave the green flag before the race.
Kenneth Clayton lives in Belews Creek and served as the Pace Car Passenger.
“I'm stoked,” said Clayton of his pace car ride. "I never thought I'd be here."
In addition to their special VIP roles, the winners received pit passes, a tour of the driver’s garage, and access to pit suites with a bird’s eye view of the race.
Friday’s race came four weeks after the NCEL 250 at Rockingham Speedway. Support of the races and race tracks are one way the lottery supports North Carolina in its marketing program. The sponsorships also allow the lottery to offer unique VIP and once-in-a-lifetime prizes to lottery players.
