Cassandra Stephens of Cornelius had a good feeling about buying a $10 Fast Play ticket on Monday and her instinct proved correct when she won a $339,703 jackpot.
“I listened to that little voice in my head telling me to get that ticket,” Stephens recalled.
She bought her lucky 50X The Cash ticket from Cashion’s Quik Stop on Statesville Road in Cornelius. At the time of her purchase, the jackpot stood at $339,703. Since Stephens bought a $10 ticket, she received 100% of the progressive jackpot.
“I went back in the store and hugged the lady who sold it to me,” she said.
Stephens said she told her husband the good news right after she won.
“He thought I was lying,” she laughed. “He didn’t believe me.”
Stephens arrived at lottery headquarters on Monday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $243,740.
“I think I’m still processing that I won that much,” Stephens said.
She plans to use her winnings to pay bills and go on a cruise.
