Gary Godwin of Shallotte tried his luck in a second-chance drawing and won the $1 million top prize.
Godwin won his prize in the Millionaire Maker drawing on June 4. The drawing awarded one top prize of $1 million, one prize of $100,000, and 20 $500 prizes. There were more than 4.1 million entries.
The drawing was the third and final second-chance drawing in the Millionaire Maker game. Any Millionaire Maker scratch-off ticket was eligible for the drawing.
When Godwin arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday to claim his prize, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $430,500.
