Perquimans County woman wins $150,000 top prize

Barbara Dean of Hertford took a chance on a $5 scratch-off and won a $150,000 top prize.

Dean purchased her lucky Xtreme Cashword ticket from All American Mart on East Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in High Point.

She collected her prize at lottery headquarters Friday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $107,626.

The Xtreme Cashword game debuted in October with six $150,000 top prizes. One $150,000 prize remains to be claimed.

Perquimans County received a $48.9 million grant, using money raised by the lottery, to help build a new school. For details on other ways Perquimans County education programs benefit from lottery funds, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
