William Evans of Elizabeth City had a good feeling about playing the Multiplier Mania digital instant game on Wednesday, so he trusted his gut and it paid off with a $273,520 jackpot.
“Something just told me to play that one,” he recalled. “I’m stoked.”
Evans played for $1 and won the top level ‘Gold Jackpot.’ The game features a progressive jackpot that can be won at any time. The odds of that win are 1 in 40 million.
“I was like, ‘Am I reading this right,” he recalled. “It was kind of nerve-racking.”
Evans said he enjoys the convenience of playing digital instant games.
“I was just sitting at home kicked back in my recliner when I won,” he said.
He claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $196,251.
Evans plans to use his winnings to buy a piece of property.
“I want to have my own place,” he said.
In the Multiplier Mania digital instant game, a player can play from 50 cents to $30. After Evans won the jackpot, it restarted at $80,000 and grew to over $81,000 as of Friday afternoon.
Digital instant games are played exclusively online on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Fifty different games are available to play online now.
