Raleigh woman wins $321,419 Cash 5 jackpot

Fontella Smith’s dream of watching her favorite basketball player, LeBron James, play in person can come true after she won a $321,419 Cash 5 jackpot. 

“It’s something I always dreamed of,” Smith said.

Smith, who lives in Raleigh, won the Cash 5 jackpot in Wednesday’s drawing with a ticket she bought at Refuel 174 on Knightdale Boulevard in Knightdale. The odds of winning the Cash 5 jackpot are 1 in 962,598.

Now, the basketball fan will fly to Los Angeles this season to watch her favorite player.

“I am so excited,” she said.

Smith claimed her prize at lottery headquarters Friday and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $230,620.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Tuesday’s jackpot will be $149,000.
