Thomas Payne of Jacksonville stopped on his way to work, picked up a $50 scratch-off, and won a $100,000 prize.
“It feels pretty good,” said Payne. “I scratched the ticket when I got to work.”
He called his wife to share the good news.
“She couldn’t believe it,” recalled Payne. “She couldn’t go back to sleep.”
Payne bought his lucky $10 Million Spectacular ticket from Circle K on Lejeune Boulevard in Jacksonville.
With his winnings, Payne plans to pay bills, save, and go to Portugal with his wife.
He collected his prize on Thursday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,764.
The $10 Million Spectacular game debuted in December 2023 with five top prizes of $10 million, 20 prizes of $1 million and 20 prizes of $100,000. One $10 million prize, two $1 million prizes and three $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
