After Vickie Darrell of Dunn bought a $30 scratch-off on Saturday she went home, called her daughter and, while speaking to her on the phone, uncovered a $100,000 prize.
“For this to happen while I was on the phone with her, I can’t even explain what this means to me,” she said. “I’m still trying to believe it.”
Darrell said her daughter didn’t believe her when she started shouting that she won.
“She didn’t think I was seeing it correctly,” Darrell laughed.
She bought her lucky Supreme 7s ticket from the Valero on West Cumberland Street in Dunn.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing,” Darrell said. “It’s a blessing.”
She arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to claim her prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,758.
“I always believed this would happen one day,” Darrell said. “It was meant to be.”
She plans to use her winnings to help her family.
The Supreme 7s game debuted in July 2024 with four $4 million top prizes and 10 $100,000 prizes. Two $4 million prizes and five $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
