Shirley Harvey of Naples, Fla., talks to her phone when she plays digital instant games and that strategy paid off on Monday with a $865,811 digital instant jackpot.
“You’ve got to talk to it and tell it you’re going to win,” she laughed. “And when you win, you say, ‘Thank you.’”
Harvey, a Florida resident, said she typically spends about half of the year in Hendersonville as she has family in the area. While there, she said she enjoys playing digital instants in North Carolina.
“I like to play on my phone at home,” she said. “That day it was raining so I was sitting on my couch playing.”
Harvey played for $2 and won the jackpot in the Quick 6 Extra game, a digital instant game featuring a progressive jackpot that can be won at any time. The odds of that win are 1 in 25.8 million.
“I never imagined winning anything like this,” she said. “It was unbelievable.”
Harvey claimed her prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $621,260.
She plans to use her winnings to buy some property in North Carolina.
After Harvey won the Quick 6 Extra jackpot, it restarted at $250,000 and grew to over $255,000 as of Wednesday afternoon.
Digital instant games are played exclusively online on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Fifty-one different games are available to play online now.
