LuAnn Chico of Lexington thought first of her grandchildren after a $20 scratch-off won her a $100,000 prize.
“I have four grandchildren and they are our first priority,” she said.
Chico bought her lucky Ruby Red 7's ticket Friday morning from the Sheetz on Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem.
“I love the Ruby Red’s,” Chico said. “You know how there’s one ticket you always latch on to.”
She said the win didn’t start to sink in until she received her big check at lottery headquarters Friday afternoon.
“It’s getting real now,” she said when she held the big check in her hands. “I love it.”
After required state and federal tax withholdings, Chico took home $71,756.
“This is just going to help so many people,” she said.
The Ruby Red 7's game debuted this month with three $2 million top prizes and nine $100,000 prizes. Two $2 million prizes and six $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
