Robert Lee of Rocky Point knew exactly what he wanted to purchase after winning a $1 million top prize.
“I’m going to buy a new set of lawn mower blades,” he laughed. “That’s the only thing we really need.”
Lee bought his lucky $10 Emerald 10’s ticket Thursday morning from the Han-Dee Hugo’s on U.S. 117 South in Rocky Point. He then gave it to his wife to scratch.
“I was pumping gas while she scratched it,” he said. “She likes that ticket.”
Lee said he and his wife “believe in karma” and this lottery win reflects that.
When Lee arrived at lottery headquarters on Thursday, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive his prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $430,503.
“We’ll just put it away and enjoy life,” he said.
The Emerald 10’s game debuted in April with five $1 million top prizes. Two $1 million prizes remain to be claimed.
