Levi Hutchens of Thomasville always saw stories of people winning big lottery prizes and now he has one of his own with a $200,000 top prize win.
“I would see those stories of people winning and wonder when my day would come,” he said. “And yesterday it came.”
Hutchens said he never stopped believing a big win would happen one day.
“I was always like, ‘Why not me,’” Hutchens said.
He bought his lucky $5 Diamond 10X ticket from the Jonestown Shell on Jonestown Road in Winston-Salem.
“I was ecstatic,” Hutchens recalled. “This is life-changing.”
He arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim his prize and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $143,501.
Hutchens plans to use his winnings to do home renovations and buy a new Dodge truck.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to get a lifted truck,” he said.
The Diamond 10X game debuted in December with four top prizes of $200,000. Since Hutchens won the last top prize, the lottery will begin the process of ending the game.
