Asheville man snags $1 million prize, his second major lottery win

Bobby White of Asheville took a chance on a $30 scratch-off and won a $1 million top prize, his second big lottery prize.

White previously won $2 million on a Premier Cash ticket in November 2021.

He bought his lucky MAX-A-MILLION ticket from the Red Dot on N.C. 213 in Mars Hill.

When White arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $430,503.

The MAX-A-MILLION game debuted in March with 25 top prizes of $1 million and 10 prizes of $100,000. Nineteen $1 million prizes and nine $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

When I scan the $10 and $5 dollar money rush tickets I get points but no second chance entries are shown,do you know what's wrong?NC Lottery

Congrats! Always happy to see someone blessed. I know the Asheville area was damaged bad from storms. This win now and before happened for a reason. Enjoy! The lottery can change lives.

It defies all logic that I have played ever since the lottery started and my best is $1,000 3 times all at the same location. I don't understand why I haven't won a top prize yet people like Mr. White literally have it given to them and twice on top of that. I want someone to tell me how this is fair. I'll pull up a chair and give anyone who can do this my full undivided attention.
