Dustin Shives of Thomasville woke up from a nap on Wednesday to find out he won a $100,000 prize in a second-chance drawing.
“It was a shock,” he recalled, “but it couldn’t have come at a better time.”
The timing works out perfectly as Shives said he and his wife have started the process of buying a house.
“It’s like it was meant to be,” Shives said.
He found out he won his prize in the second of four $8 Million Money Maker Second Chance drawings when he got a notification from the lottery. There were over 1.3 million total entries in the drawing.
“I thought it was a joke,” Shives laughed. “I kept thinking I was getting pranked.”
He arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to collect his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,750.
In addition to the house, Shives plans to buy a car for his daughter.
Players get a second chance with their $8 Million Money Maker scratch-offs by scanning them into their lottery accounts where they are automatically entered into the drawing. The drawing had one top prize of $1 million, three $100,000 prizes, 10 $25,000 winners and 50 winners of $500.
