Scott Gullickson of Summerfield needed to take a closer look at his $50 scratch-off Wednesday evening after a $100,000 prize appeared on it.
“I had to adjust my glasses,” he laughed. “I was like, ‘Am I seeing this right?’”
Although he found it hard to believe in the moment, Gullickson always thought it would happen one day.
“I really felt that eventually I would win one of these,” he said.
Gullickson bought his lucky $10 Million Spectacular ticket from Quick Snack on Battleground Avenue in Greensboro.
“It was jaw-dropping,” Gullickson recalled.
He collected his prize on Friday at lottery headquarters and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $71,764.
Gullickson plans to pay some bills and save the rest of his winnings.
The $10 Million Spectacular game debuted in December 2023 with five top prizes of $10 million, 20 prizes of $1 million and 20 prizes of $100,000. The last $10 million prize just got claimed so the lottery has started the process of ending the game.
