Lee Cox of Asheville experienced a sleepless night on Friday after his $1 Cash 5 ticket produced a $120,000 jackpot.
“I told my wife and she couldn’t go to sleep either,” he laughed. “She was so excited.”
Cox could barely control his excitement when he found out he hit the jackpot.
“I was like a kid at Christmas,” he recalled.
Cox bought his lucky ticket from the The iMarket on Tunnel Road in Asheville. The odds of matching all five balls are 1 in 962,598.
He claimed his prize Monday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $86,101.
Cox plans to use his winnings to buy some land at Holden Beach.
