The jackpots in this weekend's Mega Milions and Powerball drawings add up to more than $2.1 billion.
Your first chance to win big occurs tonight in the Mega Millions drawing that offers a $336 million jackpot as an annuity or a lump sum of $151.3 million.
Next comes Saturday’s Powerball drawing where you can have a chance to win the second largest jackpot ever in U.S. lottery history. It grew Friday up to $1.8 billion if you choose the annuity, or you can take home $826.4 million in cash.
The only larger jackpot occurred in November 2022 when the world record jackpot of $2.04 billion was won.
If you are new to the games, remember there are nine ways to win in each drawing so check your numbers closely.
We’ve seen $2 million won in each of the two games recently including:
- A Johnston County man winning a $2 million prize in Monday’s Labor Day Powerball drawing.
- A Mecklenburg County woman winning a $2 million prize in the Aug. 22 Mega Millions drawing.
Saturday’s Powerball drawing will be the 42nd drawing since the Powerball jackpot was previously won on May 31. That’s the longest streak of consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner in the game’s history.
The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 290 million. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Enjoy the fun and good luck. Your play is helping a great cause. So far, an estimated $27.5 million has been raised for education in our state in this current Powerball jackpot run.
