Jimmy Comer of High Point always believed he would win a big lottery prize one day and on Sunday it happened when a $10 scratch-off delivered a $1 million top prize.
“I wouldn’t buy tickets if I didn’t believe I would win,” he laughed. “I always thought I would win.”
Comer bought his lucky Cashword King ticket from Smitty’s 1 Stop on West Lexington Avenue in High Point.
“I called my son and said, ‘I think I won a million dollars,’” he recalled.
When Comer arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required tax withholdings, took home $432,063.
“Man that feels awesome,” Comer said when he received his big check. “I’m just thankful.”
Comer plans to use his winnings to invest.
The Cashword King game debuted in August with four top prizes of $1 million. Two $1 million prizes remain to be claimed.
