Mary Myers of Chesterfield, S.C., took a chance on a $1 Cash 5 ticket and won a $167,777 jackpot.
Myers bought her lucky Quick Pick ticket for the Oct. 1 drawing from the 7-Eleven on Louis Breeden Boulevard in Hamlet. One other lucky ticket also matched the $335,554 jackpot so Myers received half of the prize. The odds of matching all five balls playing Cash 5 are 1 in 962,598.
She claimed her prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, Myers took home $120,817.
Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Monday’s jackpot is $120,000.
