Every school day, more than 14,000 yellow buses travel North Carolina roads carrying something priceless: nearly 800,000 students and their futures.
Behind every route are everyday heroes helping to move students forward.
National School Bus Safety Week, Oct. 19-23, is a nationwide effort to raise awareness about school bus safety and our shared responsibility to keep students safe. This year’s theme, “Safe Rides, Everyday Heroes,” recognizes the people who make those rides possible.
And here in North Carolina, lottery dollars help to keep the wheels turning!
This year, state legislators plan to use $257 million raised by the lottery to support K-12 school transportation, covering costs such as bus driver salaries, fuel, and other expenses.
While those dollars help students reach their classrooms, the people at the wheel often make an impact that reaches much further.
Maybe it’s the driver who remembers every name, their attention to the smallest details to protect students, or the kindness a driver shows that makes a lasting impression.
Those are stories worth sharing.
Who deserves recognition for going the extra mile?
We want to hear your stories! We’re inviting North Carolinians to share how lottery dollars have made a difference in their schools and communities as part of our Moving NC Students Forward campaign.
Share a story of a transportation hero or support staff member that should be celebrated at MovingNCStudentsForward.com for the chance to win $2000!
