Elizabeth Hughes of Elm City thought first of her daughter after a $10 Fast Play purchase delivered her a $250,687 jackpot.
“She has been wanting a Jeep so I’m going to get her one,” Hughes said.
Hughes bought her Break the Bank ticket at EP Mart on East N.C. 97 in Rocky Mount. At the time of her purchase, the jackpot stood at $250,687. Because Hughes bought a $10 ticket, she received the entire progressive jackpot.
“They say if you don’t play, you aren’t going to win,” Hughes said. “I didn’t think I would win but you never know.”
She arrived at the lottery headquarters on Thursday to claim her prize. After state and federal tax withholdings, Hughes took home $180,523.
Fast Play features a progressive jackpot that currently sits at over $36,000 as of Friday afternoon. The odds of winning a Fast Play jackpot are 1 in 320,000.
