Cristy Silene Mendes Medina Flor picked her Powerball numbers at random and her strategy paid off with a $1 million win.
“I’m still processing all of this,” she laughed.
Flor bought her lucky $2 ticket for the Sept. 28 drawing from the 7-Eleven on Atwater Lane in Denver. She matched the numbers on all five white balls to win her big prize. Flor said she felt overwhelmed when she realized she won.
“It was a mix of all these different emotions at one time,” Flor said.
She wanted to immediately share the big news with her family.
“I called my aunt and uncle and was like, ‘I think we won the lottery,’” Flor recalled happily.
She arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim her winnings and, after required tax withholdings, took home $660,100.
Flor said she has not decided what to do with her winnings but credits her big win to her faith.
Monday’s Powerball jackpot stands at a $467 million annuity or $192.4 million in cash. The odds of winning a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292 million.
Powerball is one of six draw games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying their tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App.
