Curious how your play helps makes a tangible impact on education? Take a look at the new state-of-the-art Robeson Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC).
Thanks to nearly $60 million in lottery funds, high school students in Pembroke can gain hands-on training and industry credentials in high-demand career paths.
“Our entire economy becomes stronger,” shared Dr. Freddie Williamson before retiring as superintendent of Public Schools of Robeson County in August.
Students will be introduced to careers in construction, electrical work, plumbing, HVAC, welding, manufacturing, automotive technology, healthcare, and other technical fields.
The $87 million project benefited from local and state funding, fueled by $59.7 million in needs-based grants from lottery proceeds.
This is one of 10 new school buildings in the state to open this year using lottery-funded grants through the Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund.
Located in Pembroke’s COMtech Business Park, the new CTEC replaces the former Robeson County Career Center and incorporates the rebuilt planetarium.
Over the last 20 years, the lottery has provided over $232 million to support education in Robeson County.
