Rebecca Dozier of Newport stopped off to buy some lottery tickets during her lunch break and she walked away with a $200,000 top prize.
“That one ticket was just waiting on me,” she said. “I don’t quite know how to describe it.”
Dozier bought her lucky $5 Prize Link Connect scratch-off from Handy Mart on Arendell Street in Morehead City. When she started scratching she initially thought she won a much smaller prize.
“I saw the two and zero and thought I won $20,” Dozier laughed.
She arrived at lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim the prize. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she took home $144,021.
Dozier said she plans to pay bills and save the rest of her winnings.
Prize Link Connect debuted in April with four $200,000 top prizes. Two top prizes remain to be claimed.
Carteret County received over $14 million in grants, using money raised by the lottery, to help with school construction. For details on other ways Carteret County education programs benefit from lottery funds, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
