Agnes Whitaker of Greensboro just became one of four finalists with a chance at winning a $1 million prize as part of the NASCAR Powerball: The Chase promotion.
The $1 million winner will be announced live during NBC’s pre-race coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race™ at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, Nov. 8.
“I’m just shocked because I never thought I would make it this far,” Whitaker said. “But I was hoping. It’s awesome.”
As one of four finalists, Whitaker has great odds of winning the $1 million prize. The four finalists were announced today during the NBC broadcast of the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va.
Whitaker’s luck started when she entered her Powerball ticket into the NASCAR Powerball: The Chase second-chance drawing in May. Twenty players were then picked nationwide to have a chance to win the $1 million prize. They faced a series of drawings similar to the elimination rounds of the NASCAR Playoffs. Whitaker survived all three elimination drawings. Now she and a guest will take a VIP trip to NASCAR Championship Weekend™ in Miami, Nov. 6 – Nov. 9.
Whitaker said she has an idea for what she would do if she wins the $1 million prize.
“I have always wanted to start a nonprofit for the homeless,” she said. “It’s something I’ve been thinking about.”
This marks the third year in a row that North Carolina has one of the four finalists in this promotion.
