Willie Dennis of Goldsboro will take a magical trip with his four daughters after he won the first $1 million top prize in a new lottery game.
“I’m going to take them to Disney World,” he said. “They’ve never been before.”
Dennis bought his lucky Moneybag Cashword scratch-off on Saturday from Adams Convenient Mart on West Ash Street in Goldsboro.
“Every time I go in the store it’s been catching my eye,” he said.
When Dennis arrived at lottery headquarters on Monday, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive his prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $432,063.
The Moneybag Cashword game debuted in October with four $1 million top prizes. Three $1 million prizes remain to be claimed.
Wayne County has received state grants totaling over $28 million from monies raised by the lottery to help build a new elementary school. For details on other ways money raised by the lottery made a difference in Wayne County, visit www.nclottery.com and click on the “Impact” section.
