Melinda Porter of Plymouth could hardly believe her eyes when a $30 scratch-off won her a $100,000 prize.
“I saw a zero then another zero then another zero,” she recalled. “It was very exciting.”
Porter bought her lucky Carolina Black Premier ticket from the Food Lion on U.S. 64 East in Plymouth. She then took the ticket home and scratched it on her patio. She could hardly believe she won.
“I was like, ‘I hope I’m looking at this right.’” Porter laughed.
She arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday to claim her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $72,018.
Porter plans to use her winnings to pay bills and decorate her office.
The Carolina Black Premier game debuted in July with three $4 million top prizes and six $100,000 prizes. Two $4 million prizes and four $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
