Raleigh woman celebrates $400,000 scratch-off win

Michele Dancy of Raleigh tried her luck on a $5 scratch-off and won a $400,000 top prize.

Dancy bought her lucky $400,000 Jackpot ticket from OHM Quick Shop on Capital Boulevard in Wake Forest.

She arrived at lottery headquarters Monday to collect her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $288,041.

The $400,000 Jackpot game debuted in April 2024 with five $400,000 top prizes. Two $400,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

I agree with William G.below. I've typically played $30 scratchers and over the years fortunate to have won larger prizes like $500 or $1,000. However over the last 2-3 yrs those prizes don't show up. It seems like these scratchers are set up in waves & the distribution is controlled. I. E. There was a $50 $10 mil scratcher that ended in 2025.I think there were 5 grand prizes. Two were left for a few years then suddenly at the end 2 were won in a very few months, with one being in Durham County. Sorry Lottery Commission but I see what I see & it doesn't seem random.

I see 2 top prizes in this game won in the last month. Meanwhile, only 2 of the top prizes for the $5,000,000 Ultimate $30 ticket have been won in the nearly 3 years its been out. This leaves me very confused because clearly they arent out in stores so they havent been printed yet or are sitting in the NCEL warehouse?NC Lottery
Hi, William! We have no way of knowing where a winning ticket will be until a player scratches one off and comes in to claim. During the printing process, winning and non-winning tickets are distributed at random throughout the entire printing run of a game. Those tickets are divided into packs and securely stored until they are shipped out to retailers across the state as they are ordered.

OMG - are you kidding me? It was just posted another big Wake winner on Cash 5 and now another. The NCEL is soooo biased dropping most of the big winners in Wake - numbers prove it.
