A $5 scratch-off purchase delivered the first $250,000 top prize in a new game to Crystal Kirk of Laurinburg, and she knows exactly what she plans to do with her winnings.
“I want to buy a house,” she said.
Kirk bought her lucky 20X The Cash ticket Saturday from Scotland Stop & Shop on South Main Street in Laurinburg.
“I was just led to that ticket somehow,” Kirk said.
She then took the ticket to her mother’s house to scratch it.
“I was stunned,” Kirk recalled. “I was like, ‘Mom, I won!’”
She arrived Wednesday at lottery headquarters to claim her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $180,026.
“This is overwhelming,” Kirk said.
The 20X The Cash game debuted this week with 15 $250,000 top prizes. Fourteen $250,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
