Siblings Ivan Barrett of Goldston and Beverly Berryman of Sanford decided long ago that they would split any big lottery win and they kept their word when a $5 ticket won them a $200,000 prize.
“We always had a pact between us,” Barrett said.
Berryman bought the lucky Cash King ticket from Prince Mart on Wilson Road in Sanford. She scratched the ticket in the parking lot.
“I was in shock,” she recalled.
Berryman then called Barrett to share the big news with her brother.
“I was like, ‘You can’t believe this,’” Berryman said. “I had to show it to him.”
They arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim the prize. They both claimed $100,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, they each took home $72,011.
Berryman plans to use her winnings to work on her house and Barrett plans to pay off his car.
The Cash King game debuted in January with four $200,000 top prizes. Two $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
