John Woolard of Washington tried his luck on a $1 Cash 5 ticket on Thursday and won a $259,866 jackpot, his second Cash 5 jackpot win.
Woolard previously won a $117,305 jackpot in December 2012.
Woolard bought his lucky ticket from Moody Mart on River Road in Washington. The odds of matching all five balls are 1 in 962,598.
He claimed his prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required federal and state tax withholdings, Woolard took home $187,130.
Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players have the option of buying tickets at a retail location or with Online Play through the lottery’s website or the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Monday’s jackpot is $130,000.
