Sheldon Mcbroom of Greensboro could barely contain his excitement on Sunday after he won a $200,000 top prize.
“I saw all those zeroes and I about flipped the kitchen table,” he laughed. “I was like, ‘I’m about to pass out.’”
He then immediately shared the big news with his wife.
“I hollered, ‘I just won $200,000,’’’ Mcbroom recalled. “She started screaming and jumping.”
Mcbroom purchased his lucky $5 Mega Bucks ticket from Frank’s Grocery on Rankin Mill Road in McLeansville.
“Sometimes you just get that feeling in your heart that it’s coming,” Mcbroom said. “It couldn’t have happened at a better time too.”
He collected his prize at lottery headquarters on Tuesday and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $144,021.
Mcbroom plans to use his winnings to pay off his and his wife’s cars.
Mega Bucks debuted in August 2024 with nine $200,000 top prizes. Three $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
