Davie County woman celebrates $2.6 million jackpot win

Natalie Hickernell of Mocksville tried her luck on a digital instant game and won a $2.6 million jackpot.

Hickernell won the top level jackpot on Nov. 14 on a $3 play in the Monopoly game. The digital instant game features a progressive jackpot that can be won at any time. The odds of that win were 1 in 16.6 million.

She claimed her prize Friday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $1,887,152.

Digital instant games are played exclusively online on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Seventy-two different games are available to play online now.

Winners have 180 days to claim their prizes. While some winners are eager to get in to the office and complete the claiming process as soon as possible, other winners may want to wait to consult with friends, family, or financial advisors before claiming, or any other number of reasons for waiting to claim.

Hi, Coleman! We shared the news about this big win when it happened in November, but we had to wait until the player came in to claim before releasing this information. This winner just came in to claim this past Friday, even though they won in November.
