Christopher Patterson of Pembroke tried his luck on a $10 scratch-off ticket Tuesday and won a $1 million top prize.
Patterson bought his lucky $10 Jumbo Bucks ticket from Alex’s Mini Mart on NC 72 West in Pembroke.
When Patterson arrived at lottery headquarters Friday, he had a decision to make. He could choose to receive his prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. He chose the lump sum of $600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $432,063.
The Jumbo Bucks game debuted in August 2024 with eight $1 million top prizes. One $1 million prize remains to be claimed.
