Cary man wins largest ever Fast Play jackpot

Montfort Faulkner of Cary tried his luck on a Fast Play ticket and won a $1,578,846 jackpot, the largest Fast Play win in North Carolina Education Lottery history!

Faulkner bought his lucky $20 Jackpot 777 ticket on Feb. 3 from the Publix on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary.

At the time of the win, the Fast Play jackpot had just reached $1,378,846. Since Faulkner purchased a $20 ticket, he received 100% of the jackpot plus $200,000 cash.

He arrived at lottery headquarters on Friday to collect his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $1,136,933.

Fast Play features an instantly growing jackpot that increases with every ticket sold until it is won. There are currently fourteen Fast Play games available to play right now.

I recently (April 29, 2026) matched the Powerball number 3 in the Powerball Double Play game. I only matched the Powerball number, but it supposed to be worth $7 on Double Play for matching the Powerball - but I didn't receive any funding for my match. Why is this? I got the same game the night before at a food lion store I had two 7’s in the same row and one 7 in the row above that I knew it was going to hit an it did the very next day I was so close maybe one day lol but congrats to the guy who won p.s.bring back jackpot 7’s

Hi, Mali! We only withhold the minimum required amount of taxes: 3.99% for NC state tax and 24% for federal. However, an individual's tax obligation may be more than the minimum.
