Nicole Hodges of Greensboro tried a $5 scratch-off for the first time on Wednesday and won the first $200,000 top prize in a new lottery game.
“I’ve never bought a $5 ticket but I just randomly picked it because it was new and it was pretty,” Hodges laughed. “And look what five dollars turned in to.”
She bought her lucky Diamonds and Dollars scratch-off from Shikotare Express Mart on Randleman Road in Greensboro.
“I about passed out,” Hodges said recalling her winning moment.
She arrived at lottery headquarters Thursday to claim her prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $144,021.
Hodges plans to use her winnings to help her husband start a food truck business.
The Diamonds and Dollars game debuted this week with four $200,000 top prizes. Three $200,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
